SLOW GOING

Although the weekend proved to be a GREAT walking weekend for me, I must admit that by the time I was finished, it was "slow going".  Did a nice 6 mile walk on Saturday and a recovery walk of 2.5 miles on Sunday, which proved to be a great walk with a split time of 16:16.  My goal by the end of year is to be able to do a 16 minute mile, which is a requirement in order to compete in the Disney 1/2 Marathon.  If you can't keep the pace, the "SCOOPS", as they are lovingly called, pick you up and drive you to the finish line.

Although this sounds like the easy way to get there, it means no official ending time and no medal.  The medal is a badge of honor and is proudly worn for the rest of your Disney World stay.  Going to the parks with this "badge" hanging around your neck, makes you feel very proud of your accomplishment.

My son has to take about 6 weeks off from training after some surgery, but he's already doing great with his time and after this "break" I'm sure he'll be working on endurance.

FACING THE FEAR

"We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face... we must do that which we think we cannot." -- Eleanor Roosevelt

What a great quote to keep the momentum of training going.  Just when I think there may be little hope that I'll once again be able to do, let alone finish, a half marathon, I put self-doubt aside and keep going.  Facing the fear of being too old, too heavy, bad knees, etc. are in the past, my future is looking better with each step I take.  MOVING FORWARD!

Thanks Mrs. Roosevelt for reminding my to face my fears head on!

TRAINING TOGETHER

I've always been a "walker" and have done two 1/2 marathons, many moons ago, many 5k walks and charity walks that really aren't about the distance.  Now that age 65 is just around the corner, I feel I really need to do another 1/2 marathon.  My favorite 1/2 Marathon location, would of course be Walt Disney World!  Anyone that knows me, knows that I'm a true Disney freak.  Lol

My son just completed his first ever 5k RUN and was totally pumped.  I mentioned that doing the Disney 1/2 with him would be a lot of fun, and he was all for it.  A mother son trip to Disney sounds exciting.  My daughter, who has had knee surgery on both of her knees, would be a great addition to this family trip "around the world", but not sure how the knees would hold out for that distance.  Fingers crossed that she'll be able to join in on the family fun trip.

Having 10 months to train properly is really a plus.  Because I live where it's hot most of the time, early morning walks always work out best.  Son goes to the gym every day and runs after work.  Mom goes for a walk early morning.  Each of us accountable to the other by way of the FitBit step counter.  10,000+ steps everyday sure gets the blood flowing.

Having just "officially" started training at the beginning of the month, we're not only racking up the weekly miles, but feeling better physically because we're "moving".  Hopefully or should I say POSITIVELY by January 10th, 2015 we'll be ready for our adventure.  TRAINING TOGETHER FROM AFAR isn't going to be that hard to do!

Until later, keep moving!
